My MJ “This Is It” Experience

Blogging or writing is one thing that I always wanted to do but (I don’t have any idea why) I just couldn’t find the time to do so…There are a lot of things running through my mind. I know they are all up there, I do have the resources and means but I just couldn’t get them “out of my fingertips”…Maybe because, I enjoy spontaneous conversations more than speaking my heart out using a pen, a pencil or through the keyboard…

I deferred from sharing my thoughts when “Cheap Chow” (Chip Tsao) called our beloved country “a nation of servants”…God knows (and may HE forgive me) how much I wanted to kill him with my own hands that time…I refused to discuss the recent annulment of my marriage…I did not even write about the number of people who just latterly “passed away”…These are people who were really close to me, people who directly or indirectly influenced my way of thinking…Celebrities, Francis M., political figure(s) and an icon…who woke up my senses to move and come up with all of this…

I don’t have any intentions to burrow on Michael Jackson’s untimely death because for the whole 2 hours of the film, we were treated with a whole new perspective of his artistic life. How much he knows his music, every pitch tempo and queue…MJ was there in front of us very much alive…He was sweating, huffing, hitting high notes and most of all “strutting his stuff” for the whole world to enjoy. He simply STILL has it…C’mon let’s all admit it, he still have the “killer moves” even at the age of 50…Considering the fact that he didn’t have any major performances for more than 10 years. Who the hell in this world can top that? I don’t think even the “self-proclaimed next king of pop Kanye West can achieve even a quarter of how much Michael Jackson attained. In terms of respect and how much he influenced billions and billions of people across nations…Sorry for you Kanye, being “insane in the membrane” will never make you a king. Not on MJ’s turf anyway, specially w/ your recent booboo w/ Taylor Swift at the VMA…Dream on, baby…

We were able to finally watch “This Is It” last night at Trinoma Cinema 3…For the past two days, I’m having difficulties looking for a venue w/ a very late screening time. I’m targeting for the last full show because my shift is up to 10 in the evening and we needed a place with the shortest travel time from my office…Good thing there is a 1030pm screening on the said mall…So a date was set with my Tes, and we both agree that we’ll just meet there…Even though we are not too familiar with the spot…T’was really hard to hail a taxi last night. I was under a tree and Typhoon Santi is now really starting to torment the city. Had to rush up to the 4th level with the escalators already shut down, mind you, just to make it on time and Tes was already there wating for me. Good thing we both made it on time.

The Start

It commenced with different faces, most of them teary-eyed, saying something how honored they are just to be given a chance to perform and show their talent in front of Michael. That they will give their all just to get this “once in a lifetime chance” to be with the King…How they poured their hearts out that “they wouldn’t be who they are today without Michael Jackson”…And eventually, I found out they were the new set of “principal dancers” that will perform for/with MJ during the world tour that will kick-off supposedly at The O2 Arena in London, England last July of this year…So sad, that his inauspicious demise was just days before his “final curtain call” will be finally realized….

As I have observed while watching, it’ll be a ride through time…A grand performance, but too bad, all of these went up with him when he left us. But I’m very elated being able to see even on the backgrounds. NO, actually it was a “first-hand experience”, “a larger than life experience” on how the whole concert would have turned out.

It was in him…

I couldn’t keep my feet from tapping, my fingers were snapping. My whole state of mind was in a groove to every single beat being played…I will ran out of adjectives if I’m going to describe the totality of the film…Even though it was only a documentary, rehearsals should I say, it just never cease to amaze me how he much he perfected his craft and God-given talent…There was even one instance, I think when he sang with one of this Asian-looking lady doing back-up vocals. They sang, I just can’t stop loving you. Towards the end of the song, they both showed their prowess and Michael personally noticed that he has been giving it all wherein it should only be a practice. He “jokingly” blamed the crew and everybody around him that time for too much cheering and ogling, thus making him belting out instead of just “warming-up”. It was all in him. He just couldn’t help it. He simply loves to perform. He loved the thought of the people enjoying what he has to offer. The talent is still there, he was even better compared to these younger and bulkier dancers.

L.O.V.E.

One thing that was really striking to me was the part they were doing the J5 (Jackson 5) medley. I hope I’m wrong with this, but somehow he choked. His voice refused to come out, he removed his left ear-piece then the other. Music were stopped, dancers came to a pause and he said that there’s something wrong. He couldn’t hear a thing, no matter how hard he tried. I just wasn’t able to capture his exact words, that’s why I really need to see this film again. He mentioned that there is something pounding like a sledge-hammer on his auditory nerves. But for me, although this is just my humble observation, I felt the loneliness. There is a possibility that he missed performing with his good old brothers or he simply just misses them all…

Get mesmerized

Be treated with a whole new batch of music videos integrated with his Hits. “Thriller” was set in 3D. You can scream how much much you love him, because for all we know he can now hear us from up above….Dance to his Beat It, Billie Jean, Wanna Be Startin’ Something which by the way was used in Rihanna’s Please Don’t Stop the Music (the Mama Se, Mama SaMamamkossa part?). Lip-synch with him, at least that’s what I did, I don’t want other people to throw their popcorns towards my direction. And, most important of witness how much he loves you, how much he loves all of us and the whole universe. Thank you Michael for sharing your God-given gift for several decades. You will always be remembered.

Everytime, I was being asked what is my favorite song, It was always “Man in the Mirror”. For me, it’s one of the few songs that sends a very simple but clear message. And it rekindled my thoughts when it was chosen to end the whole experience. If you have the chance right now, don’t just hear it out. Listen to it. For me when I say listen, let it enter your ears, decipher things in your mind and let it flourish inside your heart…

I’m gonna make a change for once in my life…And I’m starting with the man in the mirror…Yeah…Yeah..Hooohooohhh..
